Tigres UANL confirmed on April 11 that Canada midfielder Marcelo Flores suffered a myofascial tear in his left leg, with no timeline set for his return — adding another name to an already lengthy Canadian injury list ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Tigres stated that Flores’ return to group training will depend on his recovery progress, while a higher-grade tear could carry a timeline of three to six weeks.
The injury compounds a difficult period for Canada’s squad. Defenders Sam Adekugbe, Moïse Bombito, Alistair Johnston, Alfie Jones, and Ralph Priso are all currently sidelined, while Stephen Eustáquio continues to recover from a blood clot. Alphonso Davies returned to action for Bayern Munich on April 4 after his own injury troubles.
Flores had been projected as a depth forward option for Canada’s World Cup roster, health permitting. Canada opens the tournament against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.
